Requests from teams to play by Tony Brown

“Following the announcement made on 10th December that confirmed the return of spectators to grounds in Tier 3 areas, we subsequently received a high number of requests from NPL teams asking to play league fixtures from Saturday 19th December".

The above statement was made by the Directors of the Northern Premier League last Tuesday, a day before the new Covid 19 restrictions were to be announced by the Government, seems to rail against the Trident Leagues agreement to recommence playing matches on the 9th January at the earliest. Several clubs have objected strongly to the ad hoc re-start of games citing lack of forethought, lack of income, lack of catering facilities and many other reasons. It is therefore most interesting to notice that considering the “high number of requests …. to play" there is only one match in the Premier Division going ahead!

Unless the NPL falls in line with the other two members of the Trident Leagues, which they agreed to, it is more than likely that any grants, subsidies, loans that are going to be available will be nullified or objected by the remaining two leagues.
