2Q draw on Monday - who could Boro/Marine get? by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

By my reckoning, the following Conference North teams would be in the northern part of the draw:

Blyth
Spennymoor
Darlington
York
Guiseley
Bradford PA
Chorley
Southport
FC United
Altrincham
Curzon Ashton
Stockport County
Ashton United
Alfreton
Chester

And the following teams through from the earlier rounds, including today:

Staveley
Radcliffe
City of Liverpool
Trafford
South Shields
Warrington
Irlam
Whitley Bay
Colne
Newcastle Benfield OR Workington
Dunston UTS
Knaresborough
Kidsgrove
Farsley
Consett
Witton
Mossley
Ashton Athletic OR Morpeth
Frickley
Bamber Bridge
Parkgate OR Leek

whilst travelling on the coach to today’s game with Easfield Seadog who pointed it out to me. And yes it is bizarre. Two teams from each of the English conference, the league of Wales, and a couple of Northern Irish and Irish teams are invited to compete each season (this has only been happening since 2016/17 season). As for should we consider it, well I think it’s an invitational, and only 2 conference teams, not any onther random English non-league teams, can enter. So I don’t think it would be our choice, we’d have to get to the conference and then be invited. Then, and only then, yes I would think we’d consider it provided the financial incentives were there (for example, I can’t imagine travelling to Inverness would be cheap!!!)

Quite a few casualties from the Evo Prem Division, i.e. Whitby, North Ferriby, Hyde, Matlock, Lancaster, Stalybridge.

Hednesford scraped through in front of a crowd of just 60 (although that could be a typo on the Evo website).

Watching the game today, I don’t think we’ll have problems beating them on Tuesday if we play a bit more football. We look like the better side. But the tie should have been sewn up today. I love to see passion and fire, but indulging in handbags only produces negative outcomes.. as a result we were put under unnecessary pressure by going a man down.

Agreed, today, much like the NRSC final against Middlesbrough was a game which turned on the red card. Until then we were the better side, creating more clear cut chances (although still had to equalise from a goal down). As soon as Burgess was sent off though, I was praying for a replay because I felt it was the best we could get. Fortunately we hung on and we live another day!

The whole point of charging set prices was to avoid cancelling away travel. A full bus make a few quid not a full bus = use the kitty. Im sure at some point this will be evaluated but after a virtual full bus going to Hyde its a bloody poor decision the night before a fa cup game! Well done Trevor for a quick solution but unfortunately im working.

He wasn’t getting much game time at Grimsby.

As far as I can tell, so far this season he’s only had 5 mins at the end of a cup game. Shame we couldn’t get him back here for a while.

My memory is going again, someone help me out please. Have we ever played Bradford Park Avenue as Scarborough Athletic? If so, when?

…were drawn against them in the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round in 2007/08. Of course - that fixture was never played.

I remember this happening but I’m confused as how the draw was even made. We went bust on 20th June. The FA Cup early round draws aren’t usualy made until the first or second week in July are they, so how come we were in them?

That the entries for the FA Cup were already confirmed, therefore they would have ended up with odd number of teams, or such like. Therefore, whoever was drawn against the now-defunct Scarborough would simply receive a walkover.

OK - when did we last actually play BPA? I remember going to the ground and watching Boro, but for the life of me I can’t remember when.

fine margins again by Cynic

Watching the excellent footage I think we owe the ref one, some refs would have shown a red card for the pen.

Pretty sure with the new laws they wouldn’t. Isn’t it now that is the goalkeeper/ defender attempts to play the ball but gives away a foul in the box (resulting in a penalty), there is no double punishment. Just a yellow and a pen (as was the case).

You’re probably right (and glad the ref thought that way) but have seen less violent looking challenges given reds.

I think Ayton is right, and remember in the NRSC final the Middlesbrough keeper wasn’t shown a red either (for the same reason). Saying that, knowing our luck I wouldn’t have been surprised if we had a ref who didn’t apply the “new" version of the laws properly. Thankfully we didn’t.

The key to understanding the difference is… by seadogx

Posted: 5/9/2018 at 20:26:13, 199 views. In reply to 'fine margins again'

Did the player intend to go for the ball?

DOGSO is not always a red as in pre 2017, it depends on where the foul was committed and whether the referee deemed the committing player to be intending to go for the ball.

On this occasion it is inside the box, potentially DOGSO however with players covering however Tommy clearly made intentions for he ball. If such foul was committed outside the penalty area and referee deemed it as DOGSO, it could have been a darker coloured card to match our home shirt!

But doesn’t dangerous play constitute a red card (if deemed so) regardless of goal scoring opportunity and position on field?

refs rarely seem to consider dangerous play when it comes to challenges by keepers, there was one on coulo in the 2nd half that would have been frowned upon has it been committed by an outfield player

DP is a cautionable offence and only if.. by seadogx

Posted: 6/9/2018 at 08:03:03, 171 views. In reply to 'RE: The key to understanding the difference is…'

It is deemed:
-Careless
-Reckles
-With excessive force

All together, it should be deemed as a red in the opinion of the referee.
