Can I be the voice of reason? by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

Posted: 30/9/2018 at 19:50:05, 327 views.

I’m going to keep this very short. Sometimes statistics can make a point.

2015/16: Kittrick joins us on the back of 7 straight league defeats. Crowds drop as low as 211 vs Spennymoor, his first point in charge of the club. We survive and come within minutes of winning a cup final.
2016/17: In his first full season in charge, he puts together a team capable of finishing 3rd, and due to injuries, we lose a playoff semi-final. Our league position improves by 17 positions from the previous season.
2017/18: We finish 2nd and earn promotion, amassing 95 points, winning 30 games, and scoring 101 goals.
2018/19: In our first season at NPL Premier level, we are 3rd, having won half of our games, and lost only two. We have beaten two promotion favourites (Basford/Hyde), and have the second best attack in the league with 19 goals.

Can someone explain to me the crisis please?

Losing 2-3 after winning 2-1 is crap. Of course it is. I think questioning SK’s ability to manage a football club after finishing in the top three in both full seasons in charge of us is also crap, to be honest.

It’s September. We’re 3rd. If we keep losing after leading in games and we are 15th by Christmas, by all means we can have a look, but for now, I really don’t see the issue, aside from reacting badly to one bad result. Shields lost. Gainsborough lost. Buxton lost at home to Lancaster! We will lose games in this division and can still do well. Let’s lose the sense of entitlement, acknowledge that there are some very astute and seasoned teams at this level, and get on with it. If we win more than we lose (currently 5-2 in that regard), we’ll be up there.

To be fair yes he has done the above …. But with the resources he has at his disposal so he should. Mangers in this league would kill for his sort of budget.
Just think what a better coach could do 😉

Well said Malton, I fully agree with you. I said it previously but most, if not all, teams in this league will win some and lose some - some deserved some not deserved. I don’t think the team did themselves justice on Saturday but moaning at them will certainly not help. It is times like those that they need our encouragement.

Of course it could be argued that a club our size could do better with a better coach but it could also do a lot worse as demonstrated in 2015/16.

Enjoy the journey.

Its great to be joint on points in third place although other teams have games in hand. Shouting at steve kitterick when the team has kept a clean sheet and won 2-0 is bizarre and disrespectful. Spoiled a great game in many peoples opinion very sad if we were bottom 4 the chappie has to realise there would be a crisis but not two lost games away at grantham and against nantwich i was overjoyed to see our position end of september not need for it.

KitKat takes no responsibility at all when losing a game.
Yes it’s the players that ultimately win and loose game but his “game management" undoubtedly lost us the game.
As for slating his players all the time… Just look at Jose….loose the dressing room and your going to struggle.
What’s wrong with going into that dressing room and saying… Sorry lads I got it wrong.
We go again. Let’s not forget it’s a pretty good start to the season.
Just another note. I know wally gets the goals but who would really like to play with him ?
Just throwing it out there but is he good or bad for team moral. I’m on the fence tbh.

Ask yourself these three questions…… by mrs trellis User: mrs trellis

When looking at the performance of a Boro manager I ask myself three questions…..

1). Are we in a better place than when they found us?
2). Do they care about the club?
3). Are we enjoying the ride?

You can apply the same questions to board members.
Yes there will be ups and downs but by these measures both board and manager ain’t doing too bad right now.

As for Walshaw, if you can’t see what else he does other than score goals, then you are wasting your money going to watch football.
Chasing lost causes, off the ball runs that open the way for midfielders to take shots, holding the ball up to take the pressure off the back four, cleverly winning free kicks by placing himself where opposition giants have to foul him or appear to foul him, sanitation, the medicine, roads, wine, education, law and order, public health……. . When our back four clear the ball it stays cleared, this time last year with the likes of Billy Logan and Emile Sinclair up top it was coming straight back.

Ok sometimes he might take a shot when a pass is on but most players would love to play in a team with a player who works as hard as Wally.

Bang on! Walshaw is a lot more than just goals. Heard an old fan saying he should have had 15/20 this season already. Really??
If he’d score that he’d be gone elsewhere for plenty of bucks!
I am going to get slated for this but our defence has been short for a couple of seasons. Could it be the No1 that’s the problem?
Amazing shot stopper but he doesn’t inspire confidence, can’t kick, can’t catch, doesn’t boss the defence, not a great communicator, no control of his box. We have conference quality defenders but they look poor in front of a one trick pony??
Been saying this for 2 seasons.

Totally agree with the comments on the Number 1..Amazing shot stopper….But the rest of his game, at times is poor..He needs to improve on those aspects of his game..Communication is a real issue. He does not control his box as well as he should..Trouble is he he gets those things right he would be playing at a much higher level.

Cannot believe the comments made about Tommy kept the team in numerous games last and this season contributing some much in securing promotion last season.Yes I agree at times his kicking is not the best but what would rather have a keeper who keeps the ball out of the back of the net or he can kick it bare in mind he is a goalkeeper and not an out field player. As to the defence who zante said are conference standard well obviously you haven’t seen .any games at that level because the centre backs would struggle to get in any team at that level but I am sure Tommy would not look out of place. As for his talking and organising I remember when David Seaman was released from Leeds for similar reasons by Eddie Gray well he didn’t become any more vocal and went on to become one of the best this country as seen maybe because he kept the ball out of the back of the net.So Zante get your facts right about Goalkeeping before you start passing silly comments

I think it is important to take into account that this message board is no where near as busy as it was 5/10/15 years ago. Just because there isn’t a host of people jumping to defend tommy/wally/kittrick it doesn’t automatically mean that those criticising them at the moment are speaking for a significant percentage of the fan base. Personally I feel some of these posts that emerge after every defeat aren’t even worthy of a reply and I suspect I am not alone in that view.

I felt sorry for Jack Johnson, who for his return was pitched in somewhere in midfield, and hardly touched the ball for the rest of the game. IMO Jackson Jowett should have been introduced. He would have run at their defence just like they did to us. There was no need to change back four. We seemed jaded, and their work rate was embarrassingly much better than ours. I hope our management team can lift the team for Tuesday, another difficult game.

regardless of what I was instructed l will walk round the ground on Tuesday night. the problem is the board member who counts the gamble money leaves his seat as the first half ends, which most matches means that I start walking after second half whistle, everyone is watching the match, not seeing me, the noise from the shed means l cannot be heard! It’s all about opinions, and Steve knows more about non-league football than me, but I’m not sure bringing defenders on for midfielders is the way to combat the team “getting deeper” and not being able to get out. The gap between Walshaw and the midfield was ridiculous for large parts of that second half.

We struggled to get a foothold in that second half, but up until the subs the back four played quite well - the first goa was a mess, but Bailey won a lot of headers, Killock was talking well, and Lacy had a great game defensively. Switching all that around to put Burgess in the middle of defence and moving Lacey across the pitch seemed a strange decision (in my opinion) - you don’t often see centre backs brought on and slotted straight into the middle unless there is an injury/sending off. As was bringing Jack Johnson on for his first minutes of the season when in such a precarious position (admittedly I agreed with taking Brooksby off, as he lost the balll in dangerous areas a few times, and didn’t seem to press much when that was what was needed).

So yes, the players let him down, but I don’t think the management team were blameless either. Sometimes you make changes and they work, but this time they didn’t.

It’s really not good enough losing at home to a mid-table side with much fewer fans, only about twenty of whom travelled with the players for hours and yet they humiliate our overpaid side on our own soil! Why weren’t the subs made sooner so that they had time to make an impact? Why did we - yet again - snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the last ten minutes or so? It’s pathetic!

Don’t know what happened in that second half. It was like a different team. It was the worst I’ve seen us play all season, they looked like scoring every time they went forward (and eventually scored two in quick succession) whilst we didn’t look threatening at all!

By the time their winner went in we had a world record 6 defenders on the pitch at once, and if 6 can’t keep them out I don’t know who can!!

I don’t think the inclusion of any one player would have made any difference to be honest. From back to front we looked lacklustre and jaded, especially in the second half. I was also a bit puzzled at the substitutions - 2 defenders? When all of the players are not quite on song, our defensive cracks turn in to massive canyons. Defending set pieces has got to improve or we’ re going to end up feeling frustrated and angry many more times during the season.

9/10, but only because on one of them… by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

…I didn’t see the fourth option.

All recent, mind, so I thought I’d do OK. Give me something from 1970s, 80s, and early-mid 90s, and I’d be knackered.

A fairly poor 6/10 for me by Battersea unreg

5 I knew the answer, one was a lucky guess.

Of the 4 wrong uns, 3 I didn’t know for certain and guessed wrongly, one I did know the answer to but answered incorrectly because I spent 2 seconds working it out rather than 10 seconds….

From SN SK bit by Old Git

Posted: 27/9/2018 at 11:15:50, 234 views.

Just thought I’d post this bit from today’s SN piece
from MD as I was asked about this at North Ferriby,
& so we can focus on the rest of season.

“Only one team goes up automatically this season, with the next four going into a play-off.
The winner of those play-offs goes into a super play-off final with the successful side from the Midlands division".

Presumably by “Midlands division" he means the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Central Division, which just rolls off the tongue…

Either way, promotion from Step 3 up to Step 2 looks decidedly simple compared to what happens regarding promotion/relegation between Step 3 and Step 4. There are now 7 leagues at Step 4 feeding into 4 leagues at Step 3. Is there more reshuffling/expansion planned at the end of this season?

Be interesting this to see.
I still think we’re a couple of players light. A back up striker something different, left back.
I see Anan isn’t a sub, must be difficult from being at Hull and struggling to get a game with a NPL team..

Probably a good point when all said and done. As they said on commentary, you’d certainly have taken a point at half-time.

Averaging 2 points per game after 9 games in a new division, and only one league defeat so far, that’s pretty spot on I’d say.
