Gone to Ferriby as Manager, leaving SK without an assistant at Matlock, can see Mezza getting a call as his no. 2 and getting a regular game… only lives in Rotherham… Am not sure it warrants us having to many backroom players/coaches… I’d like to see Steve Roberts given the role as assistant, with our goalkeeping coach staying if tommy stays… as I know they have a great relationship and gets the most out of him..

SK says
“Everything was going well until I got the call from Chris (Bolder) saying he’d be taking the North Ferriby job, but that’s water under the bridge now and we move on. I’m spending a lot of time getting around people, seeing people and seeing what I need and don’t need. It’s hectic at this time of year anyway but I’ve never known it as hectic as it is now with players wanting to sort deals quickly in time for next season.

I spoke to two players last night and will be talking to another three later this week, I’ll also be getting round the players we already have to see how the land lies. I’m also hoping to announce my new assistant shortly so it’s all go at the moment.”

Former Scarborough player Adam Sollitt is his goalkeeping coach.

Bit of useless info, but here goes.. by Thor User: Thor

Posted: 12/5/2019 at 17:17:36, 265 views.

Some of us might remember those heady days when we had Brookes Mileson as our one time saviour at SFC? He took on the reins of Whitby, Gretna & also Berwick Rangers.
As of yesterday, Berwick were relegated from Scottish League Two and now join Gretna in the minnows at the Lowland League!

Thats it, a bit of useless history. If up this way, try a match at Kelty Hearts in Fife. Very similar setup to Boro, good prices, all weather pitch, nice club house & Duncan Ferguson as their manager. Standard of football is similar. We also have The Blue Brazil up here too! Cowdenbeath FC - cheap to get in and plenty of room (100+ fans). On the other hand there is East Fife and Raith Rovers locally - plenty of fights if that is your thing.

Missing you guys at Boro. Good luck next season.

Berwick Rangers aren’t quite relegated yet, as they still have the second leg of their play-off to come on Saturday. It would though need an even bigger shock than last week’s Liverpool and Spurs comebacks, since they are 4-0 down to Cove Rangers after the first leg and the recent form of both teams doesn’t suggest any chance of Berwick staying up.

Duncan Disorderly is still on the coaching staff at Everton. When they sack managers and coaching staff at Everton they tend to give big Dunc a wide berth.

Sad to hear that about Berwick but enjoyed hearing about Kelty for the first time. Cheers for that

I think the timing of his pre season holiday (if I understand correctly) didn’t help him & immediately put him on the back foot (the bench) and as others were not doing much wrong, found his opportunities limited & it went downhill from there. I did feel sorry for him as I rated him, but I guess at our level which is semi pro, the players have plenty of time to arrange holidays away from the season and pre season. Maybe he had other factors involved, but as my namesake, I miss him.

Generally solid, a committed defender. Although he over committed sometimes - one of those centre halves that seemed to frequently need to go to ground to win the ball. And main issue was a lack of pace (hence the red card in the senior cup final).

Saying that, I’ve not seen enough football this season to say whether Killock/Burgess/Gooda/Williamson are substantially better than him. I’d suspect not.

Bumped into an old school friend yesterday who was a Boro fan
when I first met him in 1961.
However he hadn’t been to see Athletic until this season and now
he get’s to as many home games as possible.
For family reasons he can’t get to all or any away games but it’s good
to know that even now ex-Boro supporters are finding their way to Athletic.
Of course it is the young fans that we need to attract in numbers and the way
that the club is organised now we should be OK for the future.

As for Will Annan, well he deserves his chance. I’m sure we have yet to see the best of him.

I don’t think he ever wanted to leave, but had past history with Kitterick who wasn’t prepared to forgive or forget, he played us of the park in one game for Taddy that I remember but not sure how old he is and if he will still have the same influence, but I am sure he will get a great reception from the crowd, I am hoping for a you Dave Merris replacement to get signed next, obviously a lot of this years squad are going to be released so who he keeps will be interesting.

We now know that Tommy Taylor, Jack Johnson, Wayne Brooksby and Michael Coulson are on contract and so will be retained by default. Who else will Deacey keep?

Luke Lofts a must and surely he’ll want to keep Wally especially as he and the manager get on well.

As for the new signings I agree with others that they all sound promising. Annan by his own admission was injured and wasn’t able to show his best form for us last season, whilst Davo was always a fans’ favourite.

Ant Taylor’s Balls by Armchairdog User: Armchairdog

Posted: 9/5/2019 at 13:12:00, 189 views. In reply to 'RE: Re Ivan'

Here’s some Any Taylor quotes I can remember from the past few seasons (these are all genuine BTW):

“I’d say this is more like the Boro of old, but I don’t want to put all my chickens in one basket”

“Whitby is just up the road from Scarborough". Ant showing that if you want a career in local radio it pays to do your research.

“Here at Goole it’s a big oblong shaped pitch”. They all are Ant. They all are.

“And Valentine’s gone for a curling shot…..but it was a shot with no, erm, curl”.

“That was a nice through ball from Whitby’s number 6 Sam Ewitt”. Ant still not realising he’s looking at the wrong column on the team sheet and that they’ve missed the “H" off Hewitt.

“And now I’ll hand you over to Will Smith”. Ant mistakes his co-commentator Will Baines for a Hollywood Superstar.

“And Bailey Gooda has been dispossessed by Jermaine Jackson”. Ant confuses Matlock’s Jamie Jackson with Motown’s Jackson 5 legend.

“Both sides are just having a really good feel of each other” Ooh err Matron.

“That penalty was so soft, Trebor could have awarded it”

Thought he might have fancied waiting a little longer.. no doubt will have a point to prove next year, I find it amusing on his statement on their website he mentions giving youth a chance.. am not sure he did at boro, made the right noises but always went for experience.. I can see cadman being one of his targets, wouldnt be surprised if mezza went for one final year playing. Depends who we let go I guess, could well end up there?

It will be interesting to lock horns with him next season. Should add a bit of spice to the Matlock fixtures.

It will be the first time we have ever faced a team managed by one of our former managers (that’s if you exclude Mitch Cook when he was at Brid - who was a previous manager of Scarborough FC).

The intelligent apes, that wanted progress and answers, came down from the tree canopy and fashioned crude tools and discovered the power of fire.

The remainder looked on puzzled and continued to throw excrement at each other and the sun, the moon and the stars.

The crude tools are available to you.

Remember to wash your hands.

Any idea of how many pens Tommy has saved (or not being converted) this season in all competitions?

Quite a while to be fair. Unfortunately things go up, therefore so does the price of watching your team

Price increase by Cynic Al

Posted: 2/5/2019 at 08:18:32, 234 views. In reply to 'Price'

Have seen a few comments on the price rise here and on FB.

- Standing adult season tickets cost £210 that’s £10 per game.
- Seated adult season tickets cost £225 that’s £10.71 per game
- Season tickets are the best value way to watch our team. They also allow the board to plan more effectively because they know what the income stream from gate receipts is going to be.

- 12 years ago I was paying the same £12 to watch SFC struggling (and ultimately being relegated) in the division above. So in the last 12 years the cost to watch the best football team in the town has gone up 0% (albeit at a division below).

- I assume, gate receipts are a greater % of our yearly income than for other teams at our level.
- We do not have a rich benefactor to finance our rise through the divisions, we have to finance it.
- We do not have the same matchday income streams (mainly think about bar takings) as other clubs to finance our rise through the divisions, we have to finance it.
- We do not have the same non-matchday income streams (bar takings, ground rental) as other clubs to finance our rise through the divisions, we have to finance it.
- We also have to pay significant monies out each time we host a home game (ground rental, stewarding).

I have no issue with the price to watch SAFC. I want to see a competitive team that is run within a prudent financial structure. I also want to see developments off the field that match our progression on the field.

In the 12 years watching SAFC I have witnessed 3 promotions and some great cup runs - I would like to see more. I have also had to contribute to a ‘fighting-fund’ to save the club - I would rather not do that again.

It’s actually our longest time before a price increase I believe (3 years)

2007: £5
2009: £6*
2011: £7
2013: £8*
2014: £9
2016:£10
2019:£12

*after a promotion

I seem to remember the one in 2011 was mid-season and caused a fair amount of controversy especially on here.

Whilst agreeing completely withy my almost namesake, as a counter argument, it’s still a 20% rise in 3 yrs. How many on here have had their income increased by 20%? As said, agree with cynicalAl but at the same time we need to recognise that any increases in admission comes with strings attached.

I think most of us understand that prices need to increase due to :-

a) Inflation over 3 years

b)And this is the most important reason - since returning to Scarborough and playing at the Flamstad the scale of the whole operation has gone up beyond belief compared to our days in Brid. We now look more like a Conference operation off the field with aspirations of improvement and promotion to match that on the field .

All this can’t be done on the cheap - I say this as an over 65 for whom prices have increased by 40% and not the 20% being quoted above

now the price we paid to watch the old team by deep seadog User: deep seadog

12 years ago we paid £12 to watch a team in its death throws playing one level above although I would argue the standard of our current league is about what the old team left, I would say inflation over that period means we are still getting a good deal,
