so hero Gooda was left out for a reason, frankly a reason good enough to get you or me sacked.

he has a contract paid week in week out regardless, dont play for 6 week then dont warm up then clears off home halfway through the game without saying owt… what would your boss say next time you turned up for work.?

It’s been crap since before Xmas by Joe90

Posted: 2/3/2019 at 17:05:38, 232 views.

And the odd win has scraped him through.. but it’s clear to me it’s just smoke and mirrors the signings, the constant changing of the defence, the inability to drop big name players.. was once a SK fan but for the past few months his team selection, his post match interviews have been baffling. I hope next year we make a change and a overhaul of the squad because they don’t cut it.. the removal of the assistant was just a diversion and not the real root cause.

At this time of the season this should be a team pushing hard, brushing aside the Mickleover’s and the Witton’s of the league. Instead we look like a mid-table side with nothing to play for with eyes only on the end of season holiday. Next season won’t be any easier with Ashton and FCUM coming down, other teams have worked us out and know how to beat us. Our home form is a disgrace, it’s certainly no fortress, more like a video game with the instructions laid down on how bland we’ll be. The team itself is adequate for this league but any ideas of it pushing for promotion, never mind succeeding in a higher division, are for the fairies.

Biggest name. is williamson.😁ha. Kitty as managed again to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory ! Did same last week with the same sub.and we again have given two goals away. Had a chat in club and a person said if he puts the same sub on again we can x bye bye to 3 points.how right he was.he so said another defeat and there would or should be a vacancy. Another point ,is no comments on here about the decrease in home crowd .

Since last season we have wanted a winger with some pace to supply wally and could with crosses to feed on to get goals all we got was midfielders and full backs.

Kev Burgess
Jamie Forrester
Will Annan

Luke Dean is ill with flu so not available. I assume Mezza, Cadman and Gooda didn’t make the squad but will play Tuesday? Flynn McNaughton has signed for Selby.

Conference North by Dewsbury User: Dewsbury

Posted: 25/2/2019 at 11:33:34, 1582 views.

Yes, I know it’s now the National League, but I can’t stop myself referring to it as the Conference. Anyway…

Has anybody else spotted that all four relegation spots in the Conference are occupied by decidedly southern teams? They are currently Havant & Waterlooville, Aldershot Town, Maidstone United, and Braintree Town. If it stays this way, all four relegated teams will be put in the Conf South, meaning a couple of current Conf South teams will have to be shifted into Conf North. Therefore we could well see Gloucester City and Oxford City in Conf North next season…

Obviously not of any imminent interest to us (unless you’re a football nerd), but additional travel time, cost etc will need to be factored into the planning for (potential) life in Conf North moving forward.

Blimey that’s stretching the definition of “North" to the limit.

Any further south and and northern clubs would have to change their catering for away supporters. Out with the pie & mushy peas and in with houmous & carrot sticks.

Bishop Stortford v Blyth would be a mere 544 mile round trip for Blyth.

What I find crazy is that the FA hammer small clubs who through no fault of their own are put in such a position and risk going bust.

If you don’t take promotion you are forced to drop 2/3 levels.

You can’t advocate financial prudence and slap sanctions on clubs who don’t adhere when you’re crippling them in the first place.

There’s a lot to be said for non-league regional football back in the days before the pyramid.

I think it’s unfair to do this. Firstly, it’s often a matter of opinion, but more importantly we want them to get on with one another and gel as a team. Comparing one with another isn’t going to help in that regard.

Yes I watched the team in Brid for many years and went away to places like Nobel miners welfare (no offence to rthtm) but we just hoped to survive a few more years to get back home. All our managers, directors and volunteers worked bloody hard so let us appreciate where we are. We nearly went broke if you remember with emergency fan contributions. Missing promotion is sad but there is always next year. We have a ground, a plan, a board and a 1000 plus fans.

At the beginning of the season I would have been happy with mid table obscurity. The problem with being up at the head of the table all season is it gives you hope, but it also shows up the frailties of the team as a whole. The present squad is good enough to survive in this division, even flirt with the play offs, but promotion without substantial investment would only lead to a very poor season and relegation.

Build the team slowly in order to not only gain promotion but achieve a level we can sustain.with the resources we have. If that means another couple of seasons in this division then so be it.

I listened to the Radio commentary by Guy Fawkes User: Guy Fawkes

Posted: 23/2/2019 at 19:54:07, 156 views.

and the guys were trying to make a ‘disappointing’ performance sound interesting. It sounded lacklustre at best. The Club’s Official twitter feed during the game seems to replicate that.

So, it’s what, 7 - 8 weeks since SK chucked his No. 2 under the bus in order to buy himself some more time? Since then results have been what? Average? Ok? - certainly doesn’t seem better than that. What about performances? SK said at the time he wanted to take us in a different direction. Now I’ve just returned from the Far East and haven’t had chance to see us much during that time - so can anyone enlighten me as to the different direction we are taking?

Formation? Tactics? Shape? Personnel? (The Board seem to have been more than supportive with the number of signings over this period)

Accepting we are still thereabouts in the play off race, performances such as todays aren’t going to keep us there too much longer. Are we getting close to needing a change?

here go,s ,a few comments I heard at the pitch side ,was its like watching England !!!, god it was worse than that , tommy got mom ,must have been for kicking into touch, made one great save , defence was same old same kick it as high as you can and hope for the best ,didn’t anybody notice they had 3 six footers at the back? midfield made more back and side passes than forward .why not just get it in the box , coolou & wally had maybe two good chances each , and fluffed them, give the armband to someone else and do what your good at. I think kt is a very worried man at the moment , or maybe like me he thinks between 12th and 6th position is where we deserve to be. yours truly your resident cynic

Cadman, Valentine and Gooda all dropped to the stand. Inexplicable to me, but suppose attacking, technical and creative players must be surplus to requirement? Especially when we prefer to play hoof ball.

Just going from SK interview snippets, but Kittrick said “we need to look after Cadman at the moment" or something similar. I know he’s got a new baby and lives down in South Yorkshire, so we musn’t forget there might be personal reasons why he’s not quite right to play at the moment.

Re:Cadman et al by Tommy Wooton

Posted: 24/2/2019 at 09:00:46, 112 views. In reply to 'Cadman'

By the look on his face, Cadman has obviously got different ideas of what ‘being looked after’ means. SK has a history of consigning him to the bench or the stand, so this is nothing new.
I have to also mention his post match interview. I would never be classed as an admirer of him, so my responses tend to be negative. Nevertheless I commend and thank him for steering us up into this league. He made comment that some players had left early and that he was angry about this as we should ‘win and lose’ (and presumably sit in the stand) together as a team. Is he implying that there is loyalty involved? I don’t know who left, but the 3 players in the stand also helped us win promotion, as did the former assistant manager, so not much loyalty there.
I very rarely agree with him, but did agree to a certain extent with his comment. However, there are lots of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts.’ Some players are more than willing to travel substantial distances, not all the players are on the same money and earn 2, 3 or 4 times more than others, some have contracts which means that they are paid whether they’re in the squad or not and others get nothing. I don’t know of individual players circumstances, but if they are contracted and are not losing out financially ( eg petrol) and they actually understand why they have been left out, I agree with him. Otherwise I wouldn’t particularly expect them to stay all of the time. It’s like being invited to a party and being made to watch through a window, whilst paying for the privilege.
As for his comments about people staying off social media - ironic that his interview was on a social media platform and perhaps the club marketing team, sponsors and advertisers might disagree.

It’s the North West Counties League groundhop that weekend as well. If you’re minded to, you could take in Bootle v Ashton Athletic at 11am (about 4 miles from Marine’s ground) before our match, and then St Helens Town v AFC Blackpool (19:45) after.

Although being the higher ranked side, Marine’s fixtures will take precedent over AFC Liverpool’s. It’s like when we got promoted into the Evo-Stik, Bridlington had to like it or lump it when our fixture changes took pride of place (as did we in our first two seasons)

Controversial question by sick boy User: sick boy

Posted: 16/2/2019 at 17:54:44, 288 views.

Are we ready for promotion?

I’m Boro through and through so obviously I want us to go up.

BUT…

Are we ready? Part of me thinks a play-off defeat would be a great first season up because I’d hate to go up and struggle in the Conference North. Maybe another season or two at this level and we’d be able to really compete in the division above?

Am I being too pessimistic?

Geoff

You raise a very important issue here

Whilst I would never advocate “ deliberately avoiding” a promotion, everyone connected with the club needs to be realistic

It is all too easy for us to focus on SK and the 1st team squad - are they good enough to go up ? However a just as important question is “are we ready off the field .”

We are very fortunate to have a very capable and hard-working Board, but they are all volunteers and therefore have only limited time to devote to SAFC.The return of SAFC and last year’s promotion have transformed the club’s situation - almost “victims” of our own success. For those of us who endured the Bridlington years the difference is plain to see.

The Board are working hard to develop and increase the capacity of the Flamstad, a task that has obviously consumed much Management time and effort - and it’s not over yet

The whole Match Day operation is much more professional and is more akin to a League 1 or 2 club rather than Evo-Stik , our increased sponsorship income and local support depend on this, but again it consumes management time and effort

Finally our next promotion would take us into a league where a number of clubs are basically full-time pro outfits.Should we rise to that level the cost and complexity of operating the 1st team squad would increase significantly both for SK and the Board

So, what can we do ?

a) More help and support for the Board by giving our time/expertise for free

a) Backing the Club through the turnstiles. It is a truism that people watch a winning team whatever the level. How many times do we see a team get promoted, have a mediocre season in the league above…and attendances fall

The “trick” is to get promoted without risking the club going bust and supporters having realistic expectations is key to that - after 10 years at Brid in the NCEL/Evo Div 1 I’m delighted with the progress we have made.Ambition is essential, but not blind ambition, we have a stewardship responsibility to hand on a viable club to our sons/daughters and grandkids

Couldn’t agree more BoroNo7

Lets keep enjoying the journey & not rush headlong into difficult times. In theory promotion after promotion after promotion will eventually leave you at the bottom of a league and probably bust. We are close to our natural level at the moment & future promotions will not come easy.

We have roughly had a promotion every 4 years which to me is perfect steady growth without outgrowing ourselves. Get into the playoffs & this will have been a great successful season of growth.
Agree Geoff, we lost Watson when he was just coming good.
