Right. I have the answer to all our woes. by Burniston User: Burniston

Posted: 5/1/2019 at 23:46:10, 319 views.

I had the privilege and pleasure of receiving hospitality today and would like to say how well we were looked after and a big thank you. The 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed it.
But, - & here is the important bit - as some of you may know I (& Gordon between us) have won the Golden Gamble around 12 times now. and
My business of Harmony Country Lodge has enjoyed the hospitality room for the last two years in particular and in those two games we have scored 11 goals.

I must have somebody looking after me, and so if I was given more hospitality games the world would be our oyster. Let me know when you want us again. ;)

Agree Geoff, he looks a great signing and contender for MoM for me & in only his 2nd game I believe. I thought our midfield performed better today than for a long time.

We conceded 3 at home and still “comfortably" won. We certainly looked to have our attacking mojo back. But again problems at the back. Fortunately were always ahead after we scored the first, so none of the goals were as hurtful to us as they could have been. Warrington next week will be a test on a whole new level!

5 great goals, looking forward to the video of this one. But again trouble at the back, it must be addressed, we cannot have to score 4 or 5 to win games. But much better by Boro and the goals are great.

Returning to work after xmas…. by mrs trellis User: mrs trellis

Posted: 3/1/2019 at 13:34:05, 234 views.

Going back into work after xmas is always tough.
I’ve got a colleague who I’ll be seeing later this week who I’ve not always agreed with but does care about the work he does.

In the past he has not always worked in the most orthodox way but he has brought the department we work in success and ensured we have always achieved our business goals. Admittedly he happily took his share of the credit but he was an essential part of our operational success.

After three years with the company, the last six weeks have been a bit of a rough time for this bloke, the unorthodox ways that worked on previous projects aren’t quite yielding the profits that they did in the past.

When I see him later this week I can’t work out which will be the best way to help him and the business we both work for. Will it be to offer support, remind him we are on the same team, that he is demonstrably good at his job and that we aspire to the same success. Or should I shout at him call him a c**t and tell him to f**k off?

Any thoughts on which approach is more likely to yield mutual success?

Not everyone can be this silly but it is nice to see so many trying.

I, unfortunately, have exposure to the Facebook page for us, the NPL Group and I am in the Whatapp group.

sometimes I have fractures to my skull from face palming so much when i read things. I made a reference to when we had Adam Bolder saying “you can tell he used to be a good player but not now he’s over the hill" and referring to a current player (was referring to Maguire if you want to discuss also)

someone replied saying why do you bother referring to the old Scarborough its a completely different team.

We’re not a happy bunch at the moment but there was going to be a rocky time at some point (and always will be), it comes with the territory of being a fan. Unless there’s something behind the scenes we don’t know about the board have nothing to be scared of, indeed they should be proud of their stewardship.

but holding a fans forum in three days time in addition to dealing with matchday operations is obviously logistically impossible.

As an alternative, given the urgency of your questions why not take the time to approach a board member on Saturday….

I plucked up the courage to talk to four of them at Whitby and didn’t find them at all scary.

I like to attend them and as i work shifts need to book time off work on occasions to enable to attend!! If that is ok with you? Agreed, things are going from bad to worse. I get we’ve gone up, it will be tougher and yes, we’re in a play off place but the good ship boro which was making waves at the start of the season is springing leaks and sinking alarmingly fast. Meanwhile the admiral of the fleet watches on from the stand shaking his head and stating he can’t put his finger on what’s wrong

What sort of statement do you want? by mrs trellis User: mrs trellis

Posted: 3/1/2019 at 13:07:48, 143 views. In reply to 'Please can we have a statement from the Board'

If you wanted one about the direction of the club in the next 12 months maybe the extensive interview on the 28/12/18 to the local paper would suffice;

https://www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk/sport/football/scarborough-athletic-chairman-bull-hoping-for-more-after-top-2018-1-9511675

Alternatively a statement on Mark Hume’s departure, maybe the official site statement;

http://www.scarboroughathletic.com/news/2019-01-02/mark-hume-leaves-scarborough

On the field the team is on a bad run and the Whitby match was particularly poor. We all know that. The players know that, the management team know that and the board know that.
What would you expect to hear in a new statement from the board, “Steve has a track record of success, he’s been great since he arrived and we are confident he will turn it around" perhaps?

I’d rather our volunteers concentrated on the active day to day running of the football club rather than issuing the bland media friendly soundbites you seem to be craving.
The board received a comprehensive endorsement at the AGM in November with only one dissenting proxy vote against one candidate. I would vote in their favour again tomorrow.

We lost another match, we’ll lose more before the season is out. None of them will signify that the board are individually or collectively failing.

Not everyone can be this silly but it is nice to see so many trying.

Recent signings down to Hume?
Hume is a larger voice in the dressing room doesn’t always agree with SK
Hume dictates to much, blames him for low confidence
Hume gets sack before SK does as feels threatened by him

I have seen Hume on the touchline always seems to come across well, SK to quiet for me, seems unable to make quick/big decisions, I guess Bolds will be back although I’d like a complete fresh face

To many SK favourites in this team at the moment and the inability to drop them has been telling

This is what I don’t get… if it is not working, why get in the assistant manager as the manager. Why not a complete fresh start?!?!? What is the point of having an assistant manager come in when it is not working for the manager?

Confusion re: the decision to sack Hume. Obviously I don’t know what’s gone off behind the scenes, but it might be that Kittrick has allowed him to have too much of a say and wield too much influence, and in doing so has apportioned blame to him for our recent loss of form. But if that is the case, it also suggests a weakness in SK’s management capabilities if he has actually let that happen. It couild also have been been because Hume disagreed with him and was not a ‘yes man’ or it could also be that Hume is the fall guy when we as fans are demanding changes. We perhaps have to be careful what we ask for next time.

Putting to one side the personalities involved I have long been puzzled why a club at our level needs a Manager,Asst Manager,1st Team coach and a Goalkeeping coach.

I can see the logic of Reserve goalie/coach if the right person can be found, and it seems Tom Morgan fits that bill

The overlap to my mind is between the roles of Asst Manager/1st Team Coach, for the following reasons:-

- “too many cooks” - you can’t run a team by Committee and too many voices can cause confusion/conflict

- cost - in a club like ours we need to ensure overheads are kept to a minimum and that everyone involved is adding value

I hope that we don’t just rush out and fill the vacancy caused by Mark Hume’s departure in a like-for-manner before giving some thought to the points made above

Finally good luck to Mark Hume for the future

I would have had a bet on Merris being promoted from within when Bolds left. Again would fit the bill from a cost point of view.

Leon Scott seemed like a different player today. SK admitted the players lacked heart. His job to motivate. Surely players shouldn’t need motivation for a local derby.

Leon Scott looked like a different player today because he had a point to prove - Let’s be honest, against a bang average midfield we have. He was rubbish for us and still is not great. Just played well against his former team, which usually happens in those situations.

SK wore out his fingers in his post match interview. Yet again the excuses start. Sticky horrable pitch (I assume Whitby played on the same pitch ) Whitby penalty not a penalty . Same old story from a manager who is slowly getting out of his depth at this level of football.

lost 6 out of the last 7, i’m not one to usually criticise but we have been playing shite for weeks now, all the players and the management duo need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask are they good enough and are they interested enough to represent us. this is absolutely no criticism against those unpaid volunteers who run the club and who do a splendid job, this is aimed purely at the paid playing and management staff, you owe us big style, I personally will miss the next 3 games due to work, but I’ve bought a season ticket so I’ve done my bit now please do yours.

I don’t think a single player is performing particularly well at the moment (and even if it’s just some, logically it will make the others look poorer, just as others playing well can help an individual look better - does that make sense?). I don’t think Dave Merris is playing any better or worse than anyone else - in the games I’ve seen, which isn’t them all by a long way. I’d guess that we all have our favourites and those who are not and sometimes overlook the failings of the one whilst picking up on the failings of the other. Might you be doing this Borotomas? On the other hand you might be spot on - I don’t know.

It may be as simple as the other teams how worked out how to play us. We have no pace anywhere so that doesn’t bother them. They bypass midfield and a pacy forward gets behind our static defence and is in on goal. They know that most of our goals come through Coulson and Wally so they close them down. We have no plan b, no one on the bench to change our game. It doesn’t take a lot to work us out. It’s up to the management to change our approach to our game now.

I just don’t understand signing players like Watson and McGuire who don’t really improve our team. They are average at this level if you get my point - surely you want to be signing players with better quality than we have to improve the team. His signings since the start of the year haven’t really improved our quality - Lofts, Forrester, McGuire and Watson.

Full backs by borotomas User: borotomas

Posted: 2/1/2019 at 08:49:50, 159 views. In reply to 'RE: RE: Interview with SK after loss at Whitby'

He mentioned a lot of the team were passengers in he game but wouldn’t name any names which is fair enough. It’s easy to say when a player reaches a certain age and they hit bad form that ‘they’re passed it’ when that might not be the case but I’m struggling to see what Merris adds to the team at this difficult time. He’s not completing his passes, difficult when most are sent long, his clearences aren’t clear, I often see him make odd decisions such as lose possession but follow the ball and not pick up the spare man. In the bluntest possible terms, he’s been poor.
It’s clear Dave is a great guy and been brilliant around the club for a few years but I don’t think anyone should be undroppable.

Lacey hasn’t been consistent either, seems to be struggling with confidence which I’m sure they all are.

Just wondering if anyone had a different take on it?

RE Fullbacks by Stepney Seadog 1

Posted: 2/1/2019 at 21:04:18, 85 views. In reply to 'Full backs'

Sorry borotomas, can’t agree with your criticism of Merris, if the rest of the team showed his commitment, then we would be in a better position now. His work rate belies his age, and when he loses possession (as they all do) he recovers well.As for the game itself, well the pitch was bad, but same for both teams. The real difference was simply that Whitby were more up for it than Boro, and it showed, even with the massive Boro support . Obviously their manager was aware of our goal threat, Walshaw and Coulson and nullified it with man -marking., and took advantage of the lack of pace in our defence.I thought the Whitby right fullback had both strength and pace, and their skipper Hopson stood out in midfield. Perhaps when considering new faces we should look Northwards where our most memorable players (Football league) originated from.

Very worrying that the Manager does not know what is happening to us. Perhaps a start would be to analyse what we were doing well when on our winning streak as opposed to recent performances. I think he used a hammer to crack a nut by bringing in several midfield players after Dean got injured. He seems to be wholly focused on making changes and bringing in additions in that area of the pitch and remains steadfastly resolute ( except for forced absences) to keep the front and back the same. I can only think that he sees the midfield as the ‘problem?’ I, personally, did not see any reason to start meddling to such an extent when we were doing so well, but then I suppose that’s why I’m not a manager.

RE: Re: Loss at Whitby by Ernie Moss’s towering headers

Posted: 2/1/2019 at 10:21:31, 153 views. In reply to 'Re: Loss at Whitby'

We’re on a very very poor run, good job there are points in the bank as we are relegation form. What is extremely worrying is that we have stopped creating chances. We didn’t have a single clear cut shot on target in the 2nd half yesterday and as a team we have run out of ideas, even more so when we go behind and the heads go down. Confidence is shot, the players look shit scared to be honest and it’s up to the management to change the mentality but i’m not sure they know how.

I recommend everyone read’s Leon Scott’s tweet from yesterday when someone asked him why he never played like that for us. His reply " Trust, belief and respect all play big factors in players performance and attitude"

Makes you wonder what the hell is going on behind the scenes, especially when new players are brought in and with all respect to them, aren’t an improvement.
