Rudy funk by Boro345

I have been seeing a lot of talk about Rudy returning to the club, surely the board are not considering this as it would be a massive step backwards, will always be a club legend but we need a new man with new ideas

I don’t see it myself. Rudy was great for the club, but I think it’s been repeatedly shown that he’s had his success at levels below our present standard.

SK was the right appointment at the right time, having experience at this level and above. I’d like to see us following a similar pattern this time out, someone with a track record at this level and beyond.

That said, and to contradict myself slightly, I’d love to see Kev Nicholson considered. He did a stalwart job at Torquay. I’m not sure if the geography works, he looks to be based in the south west still, but would be worth a conversation to find out.

What would you liked to have happened in a week?

“When will the penny drop?" If only the board had taken immediate decisive action after last Saturday’s match!

Or should we conclude that you are seriously suggesting that in that week Steve Roberts could or should have made drastic changes to the squad?
Perhaps you feel that the board should have authorised Steve as interim manager to go out and get six or seven new players.

As a start the two alienated players (Gooda and Cadman) have been brought fully back into the fold and the start of a change in style was evident. The supporters, I spoke to before the game yesterday generally felt that the team selected was more or less the best available. We left disappointed with the result but happy with the effort and application.

We know there is a lot that needs changing but there were some good signs yesterday. Ranting and raving after a week makes you look a little bit silly. Again.

Who else should be supporting Steve in the run in to the end of the season? Presumably we have incurred expense on terminating SK’s contract. Are you advocating bringing in the additional expense of another coach when we have Mezzer with coaching experience and around 300 appearances at this level? In terms of financial responsibility for running the club one solution is a joke, the other a great idea.

Steve R. has had one week to solve the problems. The same length of time you’ve had to provide evidence for the ridiculous allegations you made about Jack Johnson on here last week.
From what I’ve seen only one of you has made progress.

Not everyone can be this silly but it is nice to see so many trying.

I don’t think Geoff’s opinion is an 8 out of 10 - I too agree with him that the team are not good enough. For any team to be good and challenging, you need a strong spine and we have half a strong spine. Our centre backs, are not good enough to challenge for an Evo Stick title. They are bang average, lack the ability to read a game, decision making isn’t great, but they can win a header (some people who lack a footballing brain can be AMAZED at a centre back winning a header and think they are brilliant). You say you want them playing by passing out, but they are not good enough on the ball to do that.
Our centre mids, Luke Dean is good. However, Watson is a good mid evo-stick premier player, however there is a reason Farsley let him go, and let’s not forget they are top of the league (where we want to be). The last midfield place has interchanged throughout the season so it is hard to comment on, but that’s a sign itself - nobody has really stood out in centre mid. Finally, Walshaw is a good standard striker for this level. Therefore, I agree with Geoff - the team are not good enough to be challenging at this level.
Aren’t we taught in primary school that everybody is entitled to an opinion, maybe you need to revisit that.

Watching the game yesterday I saw signs of positive shifts: We were back to our battling ways, we were unlucky to not manage to put our chances away, the penalty save was top class and I thought that the score line was not indicative of the play. As the manager said in his interview- it might take a bit of time to get them playing as he wants. Yesterday, for me, during the first half there were still too many long, aimless, high balls from the back- it’s perhaps debatable as to whether that is because they are used to playing that way, a lack of confidence and just wanting to get rid of the ball, or if indeed that is all they are capable of. As our players were ‘good enough’ to get us to the top of the league for a while not so long ago, I’m agreeing with the manager and can’t wait to see us back to our playing our best and to winning ways.

Season average for them thus far has been 409, so presumably there has been some fantastic push/promotion for the game today?

Who the hell is touting Rudy (62 years old, never managed at this level) and Curtis Woodhouse (zero success with his rather idiosyncratic approach to management with a club two divisions below) as serious candidates? As with their previous article profiling eleven potential new managers, it appears the SN are randomly picking names of anybody vaguely local with a tenuous Boro link.

It’s not Rudy’s age alone which makes his suggestion ridiculous, it’s the lack of any experience whatsoever at this level. A young guy starting out would at least make some sense, as would an older guy with experience of this level, but not an older guy starting out at this level, based purely on sentiment. At least the SN haven’t thrown Mitch Cook’s name in there yet, l suppose.

Sideways,Backwards,Downwards? by BoroNo7 User: BoroNo7

Posted: 19/3/2019 at 21:48:22, 415 views.

Call me a cynic if you will, but there must be more to the recent sacking of SK than meets the eye

After Saturday’s very brief statement the Chairman issued a fuller statement in which he thanked SK and CB for their efforts and which included this passage :-

“We have been successful over the past three years under the stewardship of Steve Kittrick, reaching three cup finals, reaching the play-offs and having a promotion in our first season back home in Scarborough.Chairman Trevor Bull wished to put on record; Steve has instigated some fantastic times at the football club. I want to thank Steve and Chris for all they have done for Scarborough Athletic.Since the end of 2018 our form hasn’t been great and we have decided that we want to move the club in a different direction next season and we want to start making preparations for 2019/20.”

A football fan landing from Mars and reading that could be excused for thinking that SK had done a very good job over 3.5 years and that he had been sacked because “Since the end of 2018 our form hasn’t been great “ (12 weeks) and we have decided that we want to move the club in a different direction “

The obvious 2 questions which come to my mind are :-

- just what direction do the Board have in mind after 3 seasons of continuous upward travel

- what might a prospective new manager think about his potential new employers if they admit that 12 weeks of form that “ hasn’t been great” after 3 seasons of constant improvement and success brings the sack

As I said at the beginning I think there’s more to this than we currently know

The different direction could be using younger more local lads.

SK as people may know didn’t utilise the local talent in the area as much,
maybe this could be that different direction?

Als could be use less contracted players, as it looks like it may have
cost us more from dealings with Leon Scott and may of caused fractions
between contracted players and non contracted players.

That two options of going in a different direction.

Posted: 20/3/2019 at 13:06:54, 321 views. In reply to 'Sideways,Backwards,Downwards?'

I think that’s a fair post, albeit I didn’t see too many questions when SK wanted to take a different direction when he got rid of Mark Hume back in January. Nobody seemed to ask what direction he wanted to take…………… and at that point we were in a downward spiral, and matters don’t seem to have taken a better turn for that decision.

From a shaky start, SK has generally done well. Having had a great start to the 2017/18 season, the Board decided to back him, and granted further funds for, what may be described as a marquee signing (Walshaw). That ‘gamble’ worked with us gaining promotion - but the resulting cost increase can be seen in those Audited Accounts. That new wage structure was presumably the starting point for finances this year, and given comments in his interviews, we appear to have more players contracted than ever before.

What’s to say that, given a fantastic (and unexpected) start to this season, the Board haven’t done the same again? We’ve signed more and more players, albeit a) personally speaking, with one exception, I don’t believe the team has been improved and b) they all seem VERY similar (positionally and style).

For my money, from the position we were in at the end of October, we appear to have wasted an opportunity. Signings haven’t been great, results have been poor, and the style of play confusing at best. You can start to see that with Saturday’s crowd too. 300 down from where we’ve been at say average £7 net per person is 2 grand short……………… plus bar takings, programmes, food etc etc. If chatter is anything to go by, the Manager is on a fair wedge - and like someone posted the other day, has assistants coming out of his ears. The question for me to answer then, is ‘am I getting value for money?’

As far as I’m concerned the answer is NO (was I ever??) and so I am fully supportive of the Board’s ‘different direction’. If that means bringing through some youth (and a good number of you have waxed lyrical about the style of play of the youngsters we have), or cutting out some of the hangers on / deadwood, then so be it.

I think it needs freshening up.- and a change of Manager the start of that process.

You may well be right that there is more to this than meets the eye (there often is, the Board will be closer to the players than most on here) but I wouldn’t read to much into the Chairman’s comments, they’re fairly standard and he isn’t going to say we’ve sacked him because we think…..etc etc. The MUFC board said something similar about Jose…bet you a lot of money the official statement is nothing close to what they were actually thinking.

We seem a bit defensive of our ex manager here - and that doesn’t sit well with me.

About a month back I asked on here what had changed since SK chucked Mark Hume under the bus for a ‘different direction’. Not one of you answered (apart from Geoff as I’d opened up an angle for him to discuss the latest performance). Seems to me that you are more concerned with asking the Chairman about his ‘different direction’ than you were the ex Manager about his change of direction. And that’s not on.

We’ve got players on contract, who he now has sat in the stand. Players WE are paying for, whether they get a game or not. Are they putting any more effort in now they have a contract? And he presumably wanted to hand those contracts out - so now I’m questioning his judgement. Managers will always want more money, because that is their get out clause - not the fact they couldn’t get the best from their resources.

If someone can get a better tune out of the same players, then good on them. If that person can get better value for money with the same or lower budget even better. BUT, I don’t care if its an excuse or not, if we have a new direction or not, Trevor and the Board have made a call for the better of this club. End of!

If you’ve got 3 players of a higher standard and the rest are about at their level I’d say you shouldn’t be far away from being successful Geoff (not forgetting players of a higher standard usually cost more so we can’t realistically expect to have a team full of higher level players).

.. those who chanted “Kittrick out" after we went 2-1 down. Whatever shortcomings he has been an asset to the club and taken us in the right direction. He deserves better than this behaviour.

We have been hanging our heads in despair all season watching absolute garbage. Long ball going nowhere after long ball going nowhere. SK has (had) no clue about managing his team over ninety minutes. Let’s hope whoever replaces him (win or lose) can give us entertaining football.UTB.
