Data privacy issues by gomersal seadog User: gomersal seadog

No doubt I am one of the dinosaurs, but I would not touch Facebook with a barge pole. The risks of identity fraud from sharing personal information seem to me totally unacceptable, so I have taken a choice not to participate. This translates to new forms, so I will read twitter but will not sign up,because I do not understand the risks. I read SS and regret the diminished site activity, so I hope it has a future. Personally, I would not trust Facebook, Google and Twitter as far as I could throw them but I am just one of the older generation who know nowt

Facebook and Twitter but hardly post on Twitter. I do like the match updates.

As gomersal said I don’t trust them either, or Google. One big spying machine - unethical at that when they delete posts that don’t suit them.

I’m with you on the Facebook issue - I know a few people who have had “problems” with it

SS/Facebook/Twitter. by Che User: Che

Surfing Seadog is a bit like the Independent/Guardian/Times. On the whole intelligent discourse. And the prediction league. Any outrageous and unbalanced vitriol has pretty much decamped to…

The “Facebook group" which is your Mirror/Sport/S*n. No anonymity here, a historical criticism of SS, and *a few* people quite proud and unashamed to put their names to their lopsided, but passionate, bile. I’ve had burnout on there trawling through trying to add a “voice of reason" (not my words) and “alternative fact based perspective" to some of the wondrous standpoints. It’s kind of addictive and fun though. Like a McDonalds: you know you shouldn’t and afterwards you feel violated.

Twitter is like your Sky Sports yellow rolling news ticker. Bite sized snippets and essential for keeping in touch with the game if you can’t make it. Boro stuff isn’t in one place but, much like SS, you know who to follow for something of interest, balance or insight. Even if you don’t agree with it. Food analogy? 4 sausage rolls for a £1 from Cooplands: cheap, fast and convenient as you plough them into your face at dinnertime.

I’d agree with the food analogy and add that the ss is more organic/self sufficient than the others as all the opinions on here are home grown shit on a website owned and run by someone from the town. In effect, the owner of this site has the same common goal as us all, boro qualifying for the champions league within 10 years, whereas jack dorsey from twitter and mark Zuckerberg from facebook are probably happy for us to stay in the evo stick.

If the site made a few billion £ along the way as well I wouldn’t complain.
