I remember it as a young kid. I have memories of an uneven dust bowl of a pitch. I may be wrong but seem to recall Mick Matthews wearing the number 4 shirt spraying around passes from the middle of the field.

I remember Martin Russell, with the long hair, he was ace. I have memories of a number 4 midfielder, losing his hair a bit on top and a midfield general. Time’s winged chariot (and ale) may have altered my memory though.

That does sound like Matthews you’re describing but he wasn’t at the club then and did not play in that game. If l remember correctly Mitch Cook and Paul Olsson were our centre mid pairing during that tie.
